is this your lunch?

so i don't know if this is blog-worthy or not, but i'm still OMGing out loud, so I figure its important enough to post all over the internet.

about 30 minutes ago, i was driving down east washington from the east side towards the capitol. i think i was at a red light somewhere near highway 30 when i looked to my right and saw, inside a black pickup truck, an older gentleman with a white beard and dark sunglasses. in his hand was a bottle of that squeezy butter...the brand was parkay.

i did a double take and started to wonder...maybe he just went grocery shopping and it had fallen out of the bag. oh wait, no...he's opening the bottle! well, maybe (and this was actually my thought process) its some other substance inside this parkay bottle...like antifreeze. i don't know. that's just what my head thought. yeah! maybe it's antifreeze. oh WAIT, NO! he's putting it on something. oh jesus. he's eating it on something in the car. probably it's popcorn, right? i mean what else could it be? popcorn!

no. it's a saltine. he's putting squeezy parkay butter on a saltine cracker and holding it above his head and dropping it inside his mouth and eating it.

he did it 3 more times before the cars started moving again. i did my best to drive next to him for the rest of my drive, but once he saw me staring, he gunned his engine and cut me off, leaving me in the dust and the mystery of the parkay on the saltine.

grown ass man...

proof

so most members of my family attended my cousin dan's wedding in dc right before new years. i missed it because of snow. waa waa. anyhow, there was this professional photographer there who took a bunch of really beautiful pictures and then emailed the album out to all the guests. that's pretty great, right? well, here's the catch. across the bottom of each print, in big white letters, is the word "proof" so that you cannot just have the pictures. in order to get prints without the word "proof" on them, you have to purchase them. with money. that is the catch, my friends. what a genius.

so. my brother emil has one of these pictures up as his profile picture on facebook right now, and honestly, it is a beautiful, professional, wonderful picture of him and his girlfriend mladenka sipping wine and having a laugh. with the word "proof" emblazened across the bottom of the picture. emblazened? is that a real word? anyhow, here is the picture:

i can't stop looking at it...not because its such a great picture, but because i have suddenly turned into a crazy talented ad wizard, apparently. i mean, it looks like a wine ad, or some kind of magazine ad, right? so here are some of the captions i have come up with so far for this picture:

"Proof...that love exists."

"Proof...that humor keeps a relationship alive."

"Proof...that wine is the way to a woman's heart."

that's all i can think of for now. so anyhow, if i am unreachable for the next few days, it's probably because i'll be having so many meetings with people who want me to run their ad campaigns.

i mean, really. not just anybody can write this genius material. it takes a lot of talent, and a lot of class, and occasionally some liquor.

snow is moveable

madison people know and non-madison people surely heard about the snow from yesterday. i think there was about 14 inches. needless to say, we had a snow day, which i spent eating nachos and playing guitar hero with mercy. anyhow, because i didn't move my car right away, i got really plowed in near a bus stop. last night as i left to go to the high noon for a show, i saw my car covered with about a foot of snow and surrounded by probably another 3 feet, tightly pack in on all sides. on the window side, somebody had written in the snow "HELP!" oh madison.

so all in all, i think i spent about an hour digging my car out. it wasn't really all that bad...after about 35 minutes i was able to open my drivers side door, so i put on the new m.i.a. album for all the neighborhood to hear. it was actually kind of weirdly fun. i didnt even mind when the old foreign man told me that i should have moved my car this morning. i didn't even think "duh, d-bag," as i might usually.

this is where the parking enforcer cleared the snow off my windshield...just enough to place a parking ticket under my windshield wiper.

i think what made the day really okay was that after having been so effing overwhelmed this winter, feeling so weighted down by all the snow, feeling really completely alone and stuck and fucking helpless and screwed over, was that the snow could be moved. that there was this tiny bit of control i had over, well, the things the weather and nature and everything had brought...that i could actually move the snow out of the way and take care of it and that being able to do that made everything okay.

i mean, god. finally. some fucking control.

oh and this is me leaving the snow in a cloud of...well...snow, i guess.

way to go, brainiac

for real. i'm serious. way to go. way to go!!! everybody is a hilarious genius, i.e. a brainiac. The main reason comes from one daniella maria who, as of 7 minutes ago, entered herself into the Best Quotes of 2008 contest. With weid and dawn marie already in the running, daniella knew she had a lot to live up to, but she came through with flying colors. you can tell that she really has her head in the game

and here you go:

"and i just kinda feel like my super fat tuesday is going to be spent crying in my super fat bed"

oh god i just laughed so hard that people were jealous. jealous of me and my hilarious friends. damn damn damn.

in other news, here are some things i'm doing right now to save money:

*i only charge things outside of my house. for example, i only charge my phone in my car, and i'm trying to only charge my computer at work.
*i'm drinking the free coffee at work. this is really great, since they're treating us with the Coffeemate brand French Vanilla Creamer. can you say DELICIOUS???
*sometimes i eat taco bell. for like, days straight. i'm serious, check my car and the trash.
*instead of seeing real bands play, i'll play guitar hero for free.
*instead of fighting bad guys and doing flat track racing, i'll play mariokart and sonic the hedgehog for free
*i'm stealing. a lot.
*i'm renting out my linai (thats the back deck, fools) to a hobo
*i also eat a lot of grilled cheese. i make 'em with two types of cheese!
*friday nights instead of my usual high class night of dinner at l'étoile and drinks at the opus, i'm just staying home to watch friday night smackdown.

i think its going pretty well so far. oh, and i am made out of snow. because that's how much it has snowed this winter. so much that my body is now comprised entirely of snow. that's why i'm such a cold bitch.

hilarious, still

even when things are serious and things are so sucko and people are such scummos and d-bags, and even though i'm exhausted, i think i can be pretty hilarious. just sayin'...

i wrote a poem last night on mercy's myspace comments. it's called "another day, another douchebag." here it is.

tonight the thought of your face made me vomit.
literally, there was barf.
it tasted like coke.
you tasted like a sleaze.
hanging over the toilet, i hoped it would hurry the fuck up.
i needed to get back to the real matters at hand;
my awesome self
and three items from taco bell.

Family Story Two. Starring the cousin and the father.

My father has certain wishes in life. I mean, he has a billion things he wants to do. But the wishes I'm talking about here all involve...well, I guess they involve playing pranks on people. One such wish is in regards to a restaurant not far from our house, at Dempster and Harlem, called Kappy's. Kappy's is one of those diners/family restaurants where you can get
a sammie and soup and fries and your coffee and pie for $5.99. Just like in the old days. The hobo days. It's nothing special...it does the job. Anyhow, my father's wish is to go to the giant 6-foot tall sign in the middle of the night and paint the letter "R" between the "K" and the "A." What's that spell? KRAPPY'S. Hilarious.

It's important that you know this, because one of the other wishes my father has involves an across the street neighbor who my parents call The Mayor (this must be where I get my talent for making up clever nicknames for people...The Mayor?). They call him The Mayor because "he's always in everybody's business." Yeah, I don't really get it either. Anyhow, The Mayor puts up a lot of Christmas decorations during the season every year. It takes him days and days to do it. Some of these decorations include those moving reindeer that are made out of christmas lights. I think he topped off at six of them this year. My father was never completely clear about what his wishes were for these reindeer, but it was implied. More on that later...

Let's skip around. Let's set the scene a bit...

It was the Saturday before Christmas and my parents decided to host a party at their house. Probably about 50 people attended; friends, family, maybe a stranger or two here and there. It was a slightly scandalous night, full of food and drink and karaoke and singing and dancing. Well, I guess it was actually a pretty regular night.

By about 12:00, most of the guests had left. There were some stragglers, mostly including the cousins, Luai and Lameis. We did the usual...we played guitar hero, some people had a snack, others had that "one more drink" of the night that would eventually push them over the edge and lead to vomitting at their parents' house...always a good experience. Finally, at about 1 am, Luai and Lameis left to go home. My siblings and I continued playing guitar hero for about another hour. When, at 2 am, we finally decided it was time to go to bed, Emil reached in his pocket to look at his cell phone, which had one new text message. It was from Luai. It simply read: go look outside.

I don't remember exactly what happened here, but I know there was a collective "OH SHIT" from the three of us as we raced upstairs to look out at our neighbors yard. There, on the front lawn, were christmas light reindeer, in all their glory, basically in sexual poses. In a few different positions. Two were doing it from the back, and two were 69ing. Yikes. Laughing hysterically and telling each other to shut the eff up because somebody would hear, we stood at the front door reveling in our wonderful family moment. Truly, this was a moment of love. Out father's dream had come true.

Until he was a TOTAL BUZZKILL!!!!!!

My parents, of course, were awake at this hour. I don't know why. They heard our hysterical laughing and rushed to see what was happening. My father took one look at the reindeer and said "OH NO....this is terrible. This is very stupid. He should not have done this." The mood changed immediately as we realized my father's dreams were clouded with guilt; the guilt of The Mayor's reindeer being set up in compromising positions.

Anyhow, to make a long story slightly shorter, my father made Emil sneak over there with him and put the reindeer back where they belonged. At 2 am. Bored. Until...I get up to my bedroom and check my cell phone. I also have a text from Luai. My message reads: don't forget to check the trees.

"Oh shit" I whisper to myself. I immediately get Emil who reads the message, giggling and covering his mouth and whispering "oh shit!" We look outside from my window, and lo and behold, there's a fucking reindeer ten feet up in the Mayor's tree. Luai really outdid himself this time. We decided to play innocent and pretend to not know anything of it.

The next day, our father is still standing by his "this is sooo stupid" viewpoint. Apparently The Mayor had come to ask my father about it, since some of our decorations had been knocked over during the night too(due to strong wind, not a hilarious cousin). My father tried to pull some guilt stuff about how The Mayor was so old and he took so long to decorate his house. He seemed to genuinely feel bad; he seemed a bit consumed by it. I was getting pretty sick of it all, and starting to feel bad myself, when I caught him in the kitchen leaning up against the counter, looking thoughtful. He looked up at me and with a tight-lipped smile he said "you know, I just cannot stop laughing at what Luai did. I just cannot stop laughing. I cannot believe what he did."

God. Finally, Dad. Finally. Your dreams came true. Your dreams of having christmas light reindeer posed like they were doing it finally came true. All because of cousin Luai.

And that, my friends, is what Christmas is all about.

old lady who puts used kleenex up her sleeve for later

i think vodka gives me heartburn. i am an old lady. gin makes me black out and vodka gives me heartburn. i'm destined to drink amaretto sours and white wine spritzers for the rest of my life. and a lime rickey maybe. does that even have booze in it? will i ever be cool again? jeez...

old lady.

the other morning i looked out the window onto my deck and saw a squirrel trying to get into my garbage. without a second thought i rapped on the window with my knuckles and yelled "git outta here, you!" no, really. i yelled those words. to a squirrel. through a closed window. that's a fucking old lady if i've ever seen one.

i guess the old lady thing also comes into play when i realize the music i have been enjoying lately is christmas music, and that i told lee that his band was "awful noisy."

also, the other day i complained that all of my earrings were too big.

family story one. starring the brother.

one time we got chinese food and we all read our fortunes out loud, and emil was last, and he read his to himself, and his face kind of crumpled a bit, as if he didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and with a confused, somewhat devastated tone in his voice, he read his fortune out loud:

thank you for coming to our wedding.

this is how i will get famous

it has to be. because i've already tried being lazy, and that doesn't work, so this has got to be it.

maybe i'm doing it so that my sister can link from her blog.

maybe it's because i didn't go see digibot tonight so now i feel like i have to do something productive. because we all know seeing digibot is the most productive thing you can do.

maybe because there is the leftovers of 32 inches of snow on the ground and i don't know what else to do with all that.

maybe it's because my television is still broken.

or maybe, you know, my writing really is that hilarious. and wonderful. and worth reading.

yeah, that's probably it. let me know when you want me to sign a contract.
